Montana High School Wrestling: Tradition, Grit, and Glory on the Mat
With deep roots dating back to its MHSA sanctioning in the 1956–57 school year, wrestling has long been a cornerstone of winter sports in Montana. Known for its emphasis on strength, strategy, and resilience, high school wrestling challenges student-athletes to test their limits—both individually and as part of a team.
Each February, the MHSA All-Class State Wrestling Tournament unites Montana’s top wrestlers under one roof for one of the most anticipated championship events of the year. Athletes from all four classifications compete for individual titles and team trophies, delivering dramatic matches and unforgettable moments across every weight class.
Recent years have seen the continued growth of girls’ wrestling, officially sanctioned by the MHSA in the 2021–22 school year. The addition has elevated the sport’s reach and reinforced Montana’s commitment to creating inclusive, competitive opportunities for all student-athletes.
With a proud tradition, passionate fan base, and schools like Sidney, Flathead, and Huntley Project consistently raising the bar, MHSA wrestling continues to thrive as a symbol of discipline, toughness, and school pride across the state.
