Montana High School Track & Field: Speed, Strength, and Statewide Pride
A pillar of MHSA spring athletics since the 1904–05 school year, track and field stands as one of the most widely participated and tradition-rich sports in Montana. With events spanning sprints, distance races, relays, jumps, and throws, it offers student-athletes countless ways to compete and contribute to their school’s success.
Each May, the MHSA State Track & Field Meet brings together elite athletes from across all four classifications for one of the largest and most celebrated championship weekends of the year. From thrilling photo finishes in the 100-meter dash to record-breaking performances in the pole vault or javelin, the state meet showcases talent, dedication, and school pride at its finest.
Programs like Helena Capital, Huntley Project, and Missoula Sentinel have etched their names into Montana track & field history—but each season brings fresh storylines and breakout performers ready to leave their mark.
With deep roots and an enduring legacy, MHSA track & field continues to be a proving ground for Montana’s most driven and dynamic student-athletes.
