Montana High School Speech, Drama & Debate: Elevating Voices, Creativity, and Critical Thinking
Speech, Drama, and Debate have long played a vital role in Montana high schools, offering students a platform to sharpen their communication, performance, and analytical skills. Sanctioned by the Montana High School Association (MHSA), these activities provide meaningful opportunities for students across Classes A, B, and C in Speech, Drama, and Debate, while Class AA schools currently compete in Speech and Debate.
The competitive season begins each October and runs through late January, with students traveling across the state to participate in weekend meets that challenge their poise, preparation, and passion. Forensics competitors engage in a wide range of events—from persuasive speaking and original oratory to dramatic interpretation and policy debate—each building confidence and leadership that lasts far beyond the high school stage.
In partnership with the Montana Forensic Educators Association, the MHSA continues to promote excellence in these programs, ensuring students statewide have the chance to grow their voices, tell powerful stories, and engage in meaningful discourse. Today, MHSA Speech, Drama, and Debate are thriving—celebrating intellectual rigor, artistic expression, and the unique talents of Montana’s youth.
