 Boys' basketball, in Montana, dates back to 1911 when the first state championship was played. Those first tournaments were sponsored by and staged on the campus, of what was known as, Montana State College in Bozeman. Four classifications evolved after 22 years of just one class. Girls' basketball had its first state champion named in 1972 and became a four classification program after the fifth year of competition. |
