The sight-reading sessions shall follow immediately after the regular performance session and shall be without audience because materials are standardized for all groups. It is strongly recommended that only one adjudicator be utilized for sight-reading and that this always be the same person so as to develop consistency in the ratings. The Festival Manager shall provide the MHSA Sight-Reading Adjudication Form to the adjudicator. This form shall have been previously completed with the requested information at the top to give the adjudicator a profile of the group. The Festival Manager shall provide a copy of this INSTRUCTIONS AND REGULATIONS form to all directors and sight-reading adjudicators prior to the festival. SIGHT - READING PROCEDURE Sight-reading shall take place immediately after the adjudicated performance and verbal comments or mini clinic of the prepared selections. The festival manager may either arrange to have the sight-reading portion take place at the same site as the prepared performance for may move the group to a new location. The adjudicator will distribute the sight-reading packets to the students with instructions to leave them closed until they receive further directions. The director now has two minutes to silently study the score before any communication about the music takes place with the students. During this time the adjudicator should become familiar with the profile of the group from the information at the top of the adjudication form. Each choir is required to sing the first two of the appropriate (SSA, SATB etc.) exercises and may proceed as far as they feel comfortable. A maximum of two minutes will be allowed for the study of each exercise, during which time the music must NOT be hummed or sung. Harmonic or melodic problems may be pointed out and attention may be called to key signatures, repeat signs etc., but the director is not permitted to sing for or with his/her students or to play their parts on the piano. All exercises will be sung without accompaniment. Piano may be used for beginning pitches, for playing a I - IV - V - I sequence, or for playing a scale to establish a key center. The choir may also sing the I - IV - V - I sequence, the scale and beginning pitches before beginning to sight-read. The choir may use solfege syllables, numbers (corresponding with scale degrees), "lah", or any other neutral syllables. Repeats should be honored. After the choir begins singing, they are to continue to the end of the exercise without stoppvx Ʒxi^Li7i^xi^(jhMhlCJUaJmHnHu#jhMhlCJUaJhMhlCJaJjhMhlCJUaJ#hMhl5CJOJQJ^JaJhw5CJOJQJ^JaJh5CJOJQJ^JaJh;5CJOJQJ^JaJh5CJOJQJ^JaJ hh|RCJOJQJ^JaJ hhCJOJQJ^JaJ.jhlCJOJQJU^JaJmHnHux , $x$Ifa$gdM$x$Ifa$gdM$a$gd ( * , . \ ^ r t v : < P ޾޾޾޾w޾޾eޛ޾#jhMhlCJUaJ#j=hMhlCJUaJ#jhMhlCJUaJ#hMhl5CJOJQJ^JaJ hMhlCJOJQJ^JaJhMhlCJaJ(jhMhlCJUaJmHnHujhMhlCJUaJ#jthMhlCJUaJ", . \ ^PPPBP$x$Ifa$gdM$x$Ifa$gdMkd$$Ifl\|)(F t0644 laytM : K===/$x$Ifa$gdM$x$Ifa$gdMkd$$IflrN |)6 @ F t0644 laytMP R T ^ ` b d ޾~jT~@T&jhMhl>*CJUaJ+jhMhl>*CJUaJmHnHu&jhMhl>*CJUaJhMhl>*CJaJ jhMhl>*CJUaJ#hMhl5CJOJQJ^JaJ hMhlCJOJQJ^JaJhMhlCJaJ(jhMhlCJUaJmHnHujhMhlCJUaJ#jhMhlCJUaJ: b d =kd$$IflrN |)6 @ b t0644 laytM$x$Ifa$gdM 2 4 6 @ B N P R T h j l v x 猪n_K&hz'hX#56CJOJQJ^JaJhX#6CJOJQJ^JaJ&jWhMhl>*CJUaJ&jhMhl>*CJUaJ#hMhl5CJOJQJ^JaJ hMhlCJOJQJ^JaJ+jhMhl>*CJUaJmHnHu&johMhl>*CJUaJhMhl>*CJaJ jhMhl>*CJUaJ _ P Q S U W [ xxxxx $$Ifa$gdM $ & Fa$gdX#$a$gdq\hkd$$Ifl|)) t0644 laytM p P \ ] c d ˼ڪ|jYHY7Y hMhCJOJQJ^JaJ hMh CJOJQJ^JaJ hMhdPCJOJQJ^JaJ#hMhbe5CJOJQJ^JaJ#hMhdP5CJOJQJ^JaJ7jhMhfN5CJOJQJU^JaJmHnHu#hMhbe5CJOJQJ^JaJh'V6CJOJQJ^JaJh^8g6CJOJQJ^JaJ#hz'hX#6CJOJQJ^JaJ&hz'h56CJOJQJ^JaJ[ \ d K?????? $$Ifa$gdMkd\$$IflrT |) t0644 laytM @Aqr $$Ifa$gdM ?@,=YZ}~WXY޼ޫ}k޼ZZZ޼޼޼ޫ hMhCJOJQJ^JaJ#hMhbe5CJOJQJ^JaJ#hMhdP5CJOJQJ^JaJ7jhMh S5CJOJQJU^JaJmHnHu hMhbeCJOJQJ^JaJ hMh CJOJQJ^JaJ hMhCJOJQJ^JaJ hMhdPCJOJQJ^JaJ hMhz'CJOJQJ^JaJ,K?????? $$Ifa$gdMkd $$IflrT |) t0644 laytM,Z[}~W $$Ifa$gdM WXhiK?????? $$Ifa$gdMkd $$IflrT |) t0644 laytMYghi#$7>?@}~ŴŴţŒŁp_ŁN hMhbeCJOJQJ^JaJ hMhhWCJOJQJ^JaJ hMhCJOJQJ^JaJ hMhb 2CJOJQJ^JaJ hMhz'CJOJQJ^JaJ hMh CJOJQJ^JaJ hMhdPCJOJQJ^JaJ hMh SCJOJQJ^JaJ#hMhbe5CJOJQJ^JaJ.hMhdP5CJOJQJ^JaJmHnHu$%?@AB~ $$Ifa$gdM ~K?????? $$Ifa$gdMkd] $$IflrT |) t0644 laytM -.\]ѿ{jN<#hMhE=5CJOJQJ^JaJ7jhMh2|5CJOJQJU^JaJmHnHu hMhbeCJOJQJ^JaJ hMhhWCJOJQJ^JaJ hMhCJOJQJ^JaJ hMhb 2CJOJQJ^JaJ hMh SCJOJQJ^JaJ#hMhbe5CJOJQJ^JaJ#hMh S5CJOJQJ^JaJ7jhMh S5CJOJQJU^JaJmHnHu -.]^wx $$Ifa$gdM ^_xK?????? $$Ifa$gdMkd $$IflrT |) t0644 laytMwx12*+ޚwhVD#h[ h"N5CJOJQJ^JaJ#h[ h[ 5CJOJQJ^JaJh[ 5CJOJQJ^JaJ hMhY8CJOJQJ^JaJ#hMhY85CJOJQJ^JaJ hMhbeCJOJQJ^JaJ hMhCJOJQJ^JaJ hMhCJOJQJ^JaJ hMhz'CJOJQJ^JaJ hMhb 2CJOJQJ^JaJ hMhE=CJOJQJ^JaJx23`a $$Ifa$gdM K?????? $$Ifa$gdMkd $$IflrT |) t0644 laytM+LvdTTT$ h AB@@a$gd[ $ h A@B@@a$gd[ }kd^ $$Ifl@ 0T|)(# t0644 laytM $$Ifa$gdM +,.3LSm~(XrTX i!\,^չչǹչtfXVUh MCJOJQJ^JaJhop{CJOJQJ^JaJ&h Mh M5>*CJOJQJ^JaJ h Mh MCJOJQJ^JaJ#h Mh M5CJOJQJ^JaJhlCJOJQJ^JaJh[ CJOJQJ^JaJhE=CJOJQJ^JaJ h[ h[ CJOJQJ^JaJ1jhz'5CJOJQJU^JaJmHnHu Uw'(WXrs\]JK ! $ & Fa$gd Mgd M$a$gd M$a$gd M$ h AB@@a$gdl$ h AB@@a$gd[ ! !\\,^-^/^0^2^3^5^6^8^9^G^H^I^J^K^_^`^a^b^$a$gdl$a$gd"N$ h AB@@a$gdl $ & Fa$gd M$a$gd Ming. If there is a complete breakdown, they will proceed to the next exercise or stop at that point. Verbal directions may be given while the choir is sight-reading but the director is not permitted to sing with the choir. Following the sight-reading, the adjudicator shall make a few brief constructive comments to the group. These comments should highlight strengths and areas of weakness with suggestions for future improvement. The adjudicator will then instruct the students to return all of the packets.
